P6QM and P6/5M blast off with reading and science!

Today saw the launch of Project 500 in 6Q and 6/5M. This is a science reading project that we have introduced in conjunction with lecturers from the School of Education at Queen’s University.
The project aims to draw links between science, literacy and ICT in a cross-curricular manner in order to promote reading of factual books. Each child has been challenged to read a selection of books related to an area of science and to choose an aspect or a prominent scientist to research and present their findings to the class.
Buick opened its doors to astronauts, Tim Peakes, rabbits, blood cells, Dolly the sheep, doctors, forensic scientists and many other personalities from the world of science.
It was evident that parents, as well as children, had put a great deal of thought and effort into making this a most wonderful day for all
