Eco Club: October Block

Our first block of Eco Club is over and although the weather wasn’t particularly cooperative this great bunch of pupils did a lot of work around the school. We were able to weed many of the flowerbeds and planters around the school grounds and some new bulbs and plants have been added! With so many leaves falling we used our new brushes to tidy up the paths. We harvested our tomatoes and may have sampled a few, they were delicious! A group of children also carried out a biodiversity survey to identify which species of plants and animals are present in our garden and pond area. They then went hunting for sticks and other natural materials to add to our Minibeast Hotel and set up some pots as shelters for frogs and toads. This wasn’t the only building work going on as Barry Tapster, the Mid and East Antrim Recycling Officer, joined us over the three weeks to begin work on our plastic bottle greenhouse. The children helped Barry with measuring, drilling and attaching the bottles and are hoping to get it finished soon. We can’t wait until our next block in March to continue our activities.
