  1. P6 go to Balmoral Show

P6 were one of ten school from across Northern Ireland to be selected to take part in the prestigious Wool Innovators Project.

Wool Innovators is a school based project to help children to learn more about the product wool. It is supported by the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society and The Worshipful Company of Woolmen.

The project involved P6 children investigating the many properties of wool which make it a most versatile fabric which can be used to produce many different products. We decided that wool would be an excellent fabric to make new school jumpers from. We completed lots of science experiments to test the properties of wool. We then explored why wool is such a useful product and designed our own jumpers. These designs were brought to life as we made our own felt jumpers.

Many thanks to Mrs Moffett and Miss Orr who shared their expertise and helped us create brilliant jumpers. The culmination of the project was a free trip to Balmoral Show where we were given the chance to talk to invited guests from the agricultural and wool production sectors about our project. Every child got a chance to explain their work and we were presented with a certificate for all our hard work.

Well done to every Primary Six child who took part in this amazing project.

P6 spent a great day today on our school trip at Portglenone Forest.

We have been learning all about bluebells in school and really enjoyed seeing them in flower today. We spent time exploring the forest, learning lots of new and interesting information and listening to the Forest Ranger Liz.

We made brilliant dens and then played in them. We did lots of games and activities to help us learn more about the forest. We also really enjoyed our picnic and ice creams!

What a fabulous day of fun in the forest.

What a glorious week for our 7-a-side football team! 😊

Earlier in the year, Buick qualified for the Ballymena Primary Schools’ Tournament held on Wednesday at Ballymena Showgrounds. The children trained each week with Mr Beattie and Mr Maybin after school to prepare for this event.   Our children presented with a positive attitude and each pupil excelled in their role. Communication and teamwork were phenomenal! Our tenacious team consistently demonstrated their high level of skill throughout each match and the results are testament to their desire to succeed:

                                                    Buick v Ballykeel = 2-0 win

                                                    Buick v Moorfields = 1-0 win

                                                    Buick v St. Colmcille = 2-1 win

                                                    Buick v Gracehill = 1-0 win

Thank you to Buick parents and carers who turned out in force! It was an emotional moment to see our pupils lift the shield and I know they will treasure the magical memories made.

They’ve written bird reports and presented them to the class.

Thanks to our student teacher, Miss Mulholland, for teaching some of these lessons

  8. World Book Day – School Council’s PJ Day

Reading is so important for our children. The love of reading should be encouraged at home. Sometimes children view reading as just a homework chore. It is so much more than this and should be actively encouraged at home and through routines in these formative years.

Today, we celebrated World Book Day by having a relaxing pyjama day at school! This was thoroughly enjoyed by all! 😊

  9. Mental Health Week

Today P4 took part in HIP Psychology’s workshop for Children’s Mental Health Week (2nd to 6th Feb 2026). We Joined over 6000 Pupils from lots of different schools learning important skills for life.

Through a Live online workshop with interactive discussion, videos, real-life scenarios and practical activities, the children practised:

    ✔ Naming emotions

    ✔ Recognising emotional triggers

✔ Choosing strategies that match how they feel

These skills reinforce the national Children’s Mental Health week message “This is My Place” and support school as a safe place where emotions are understood.

    P6 have been time travelling!

Today we went back in time to when Buick Memorial Primary School first opened under the guidance of the Rev Buick. We spent an interesting day re-enacting school life in Victorian Times to conclude our Victorian World Around Us Topic. The day had lots of surprises with writing on slates, using copy books, PE Victorian Style, Religious Education, Tables and Nature Study.

We had a traditional break of soda farls and butter which we all enjoyed.

We had an amazing day experiencing life in a Victorian school.

Thank you to all the parents who helped to organise the costumes and Mr Henry who found lots of Victorian artifacts which were in school, and we were able to use.

This term SU welcomed P6 pupils.

Our theme  is transformations and we have been looking at how Jesus changes lives. Rev Moffett helped us to learn more about the disciples and how Jesus picked disciples from very different backgrounds and made them fishers of men. This week he explained  how Jesus brought great change to the Samaritan woman at the well.

There has been snacks, crafts, games, challenges, quizzes and lots of fun. Thank you to the Rev Moffett for all your help and support. Next week we are very excited to welcome back Eve McMullan and learn more about transformations.

This week in school we are all taking part in Kindness Week. We are focusing on how we can be kind and caring to each other in school. We are taking part in circle times, designing our own super heroes for a whole school competition and completing art work.

Watch out for our little yellow stickers which all members of staff in school are giving out this week when they see kindness in action.

On Wednesday morning we celebrated Harvest with a special assembly. The choir, instrumentalists and P6QC with the help of Rev Clements reminded everyone of the joy of God’s harvest season. We explained  the importance of sharing and the special promises God has made about seedtime and harvest. P6QC used drama to retell the story of Elijah and the widow and her son in Zarephath. It was a very special morning and everyone involved did their part brilliantly.

  20. Owen Daly Football Tournament

Comments Off on Owen Daly Football Tournament

As a school, we have been focussing on fostering a positive attitude, and there has been no better example this week regarding the school’s football team’s temperament. After a difficult start, the boys rallied and managed to put a string of winning performances together to finish runner up in the group, therefore qualifying for the Semi Final. A tight game against Gracehill Primary led to a 1-1 finish at full time.

Unfortunately, an extra time “Golden Goal” saw Gracehill into the final. Our team played with adept skill and showed themselves to be a team with grit and determination.

They are also a team that displays outstanding sportsmanship, on and off the pitch. During one game, the senior players led the team over to a player who received an injury during the game to check he was Ok and tell him he had a great game.  What a team of real class!

Well done boys! You have set a high standard. Your sportsmanship and technical football was also noticed by other schools.

On Tuesday morning P6 visited Cuningham Memorial Church. Many thanks to Rev Mullholland who answered all our questions and showed us lots of interesting Victorian artifacts. We learned lots about the history of our local church during Victorian Times.

Miss Orr accompanied us on the trip and we are going to create lots of amazing art with her based on our Victorian theme. Even though it was a very wet morning for a walk we all had a great time.
